Congratulations To W. Earle Miller, Our Juno Contest Winners!

|Hannah Olson

It isn’t every day that you get to experience an entire community coming together – but that’s what happened when we visited W. Earle Miller Public School in Timmins this week to give them their Juno system.

Earlier this year, the parents, students and teachers at W. Earle Miller put together an amazing video presentation as their entry into our giveaway contest. They answered the question “Why should your school get a Juno?” with a video that simply blew us away.

We cannot express how touched we were by all of the submissions to the contest, but W. Earle Miller’s stood out thanks to its creativity, passion and energy. The effort that went into their video submission shone through, and it quickly became clear that this school has heart.

The entire class participated in the submission, with individual interviews and a spectacular group performance of a classic song with creative new lyrics:

“I can hear clearly now, the FrontRow’s on. I can hear all the lessons and be on my way!”

When we saw their video, we knew we just had to award them a Juno.

During this week’s assembly to present the system, the students thanked us for their Juno by performing an encore of “I can hear clearly now” live – and it was an amazing show.

As we told them when we informed them of their big win, the judges on The Voice would congratulate them on making it their own!

Also during the assembly, Angela Ciccone, resource teacher, spoke about the process of making the video, and Vice Principal Mary-Ann Neilsen congratulated everyone who put in their time and effort to make it happen.

W. Earle Miller was alerted to our contest by Billie Doucette, the teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing for the District School Board Ontario North East, and the students, parents and staff at the school immediately rose to the challenge.

The video was also the result of some pretty spectacular parents, who helped make it a reality.

Congratulations to everyone at W. Earle Miller on your new Juno system. We are so happy to now be part of your school!
